American Legion Auxiliary Tar Heel Girls State is a unique government-in-action learning program for rising senior students in North Carolina.
Objectives:

To improve citizenship for present and future generations of Tar Heels.

To become familiar with political processes and the structure of North Carolina's government.

To develop civic leadership and pride in American citizenship.
-
To instill in the citizens of Tar Heel Girls State an appreciation for American traditions and belief in the United States.
-
To develop a sense of individual obligation to community, state, and nation.
-
To insure the principles of justice, freedom, and democracy will continue for posterity.
Registration Procedures

Registration is handled by our American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Units or American Legion Posts (where there are no ALA Units) located throughout the state.

An ALA Unit or Post in your area should be in touch with your school to discuss their procedures for student selection, as each group has a slightly different local procedure.

Registration Timeline

Late Fall 2024-Spring 2025:

Local Units and Posts will contact schools and begin their selection process - including verifying delegate's GPA and Class rank.

Delegate will complete the online registration process using the password provided by the endorsing Unit or Post.

Delegate will contact the local Unit or Post after she has completed the online registration.

Online registration opens January 15, 2025.

Units and Posts will submit the Unit Endorsement Form and all monies ($400 per participant) are due to Department Headquarters by May 1, 2025.

The non-refundable deadline is June 1, 2025.
